Recognition and crediting

The recognition of achievements from other universities and the crediting of non-university achievements are of great importance to our faculty.
Recognition
The recognition of competences acquired at higher education institutions is an essential prerequisite for the qualitative and quantitative improvement of mobility and a contribution to flexible learning paths for students. This means that competences already acquired are not assessed more than once and study periods are not unnecessarily extended.
The legal basis for this (Lisbon Convention) can be found on the website of the Department of Quality Development (in German).
Acquired abroad:
Before enrollment in Passau
Study and examination achievements that you have completed at another university before enrolling in Passau must be processed with the application for recognition of the programme coordination. Additional evidence (module descriptions and certificates) must be enclosed.
After the application has been reviewed by the subject representatives and approved, the application will be returned to you and you can submit it to the Examinations Office for the grade(s) to be entered.
If credits amounting to at least 25 ECTS credits are recognized, you will be upgraded one semester.

Special feature: Recognition as Schlüssenkompetenzen / Studium Generale
Please include recognition in the General Studies programme or in the area of key competences that were completed before enrolment at the University of Passau in the standard application form of the degree programme coordination.
Recognitions in the General Studies programme or in the area of key competences that were completed at another university during enrolment in Passau (e.g. at the Virtual University of Bavaria - vhb) require an individual domestic learning agreement issued in advance (to be submitted to the WIWI degree programme coordinator).
Crediting of non-academic competences
Credit transfer options:
- As part of internships (practical modules according to examination regulations)
- As a substitute for competences to be demonstrated in the degree programme
Legal basis:
- In accordance with Art. 86 BayHIG, the crediting of equivalent achievements is possible, up to a maximum of 50% of the ECTS points.
- Those affected can lodge an objection in the event of rejection.
Among other things, the following are recognised:
- Relevant, successfully completed vocational training, further education and/or advanced training
- Relevant, successfully completed school education,
- Practical work experience.
The WIWI-School also uses the application for recognition for credits.
