Master seminar

The Chair of Marketing and Services regularly offers a Master seminar. Below you will find information on the selection process, registration and the topics.

Target group and number of seminar places

  • All students in the M.Sc. Business Administration and/or M.A. International Cultural and Business Studies program
  • There are 6 seminar places available.
  • The limited number of places makes an application process necessary.


Required documents

  • Topic preferences (prioritization of three topics)
  • Copy of Bachelor's certificate
  • Current transcript of records
  • Certificate of enrolment for the relevant semester

  • Topics for the Master seminar in the winter term 2025/26
  • When applying for the seminar, applicants must indicate three topic preferences.
  • Topics are not assigned twice, i.e. participants can also be assigned a topic that they have not specified as a topic request.
  • It is not possible to make your own suggestions for seminar topics.

  • All seminar papers are supervised by research assistants of the chair.
  • The responsible supervisor will be announced at the kick-off event.
  • Seminar participants can attend a meeting three to four times for approx. 30 minutes.
    • Checkpoint 1: First draft outline and rough coordination
    • Checkpoint 2/3: Fine-tuning and outline
    • Checkpoint 3/4: Discussion of the presentation
  • Please arrange meetings with your respective supervisor in good time and prepare for the appointments.

Application period: Mon, 30.06.25, 9:00 to Mon, 07.07.25, 23:59

Allocation of seminar places (1st round): until Fri, 11.07.25, 12:00

Deadline for acceptance of confirmed places or possibility to withdraw (1st round): until Mon, 14.07.25, 9:00

Allocation of seminar places (2nd round): Fri, 18.07.25, 12:00

Deadline for acceptance of confirmed places or possibility to withdraw (2nd round): until Mon, 21.07.25, 9:00

Kick-off: 28.07.2025, 15:00-16:00

Seminar presentation: 16.12.2025, 14:00-17:00


Submission of seminar paper: by 31.01.26 via mail to the chair's address (the postmark counts as the submission date)

Objective

The students individually write a seminar paper on topics of the chair's research.

Scope

  • Seminar paper: 20 to 25 pages
  • Presentation: approx. 20 minutes per topic

Concretization and starting literature

  • The procedure and topics will be specified in the kick-off event and in the first meeting with the respective supervisor.
  • At the beginning of the seminar, students will receive literature recommendations for their respective topic from their supervisor upon request.

  • The guidelines for writing seminars at the Chair can be found on the Seminars page.
  • If the guidelines for writing seminar papers at the Chair of Marketing and Services are not adhered to, deductions will be made in the assessment of the thesis.

Writing seminar papers at our chair is based on mutual trust. You have to complete these examinations independently and without external help.

This also includes labeling quoted sentences and texts as citations. Without the origin of such material, especially sources accessible on the internet, these are considered plagiarism.

The chair reserves the right not to assess the paper in whole or in part in the event of plagiarism.

By submitting your work to our chair, you acknowledge these rules and agree that it may be analyzed using plagiarism detection software.

  • Priority is given to the best applicants, i.e. the best-performing applicants are considered first.
  • If demand exceeds supply, M.Sc. Business Administration students will be considered first.

Required deliverables

  • Preparation of seminar paper: 20-25 pages
  • Presentation of seminar paper: approx. 20 minutes

Evaluation

  • 60% seminar paper
  • 40% seminar presentation
