On 18.01.2024, Prof. Dr. Pelger welcomed Hans Hartmann (Capital Markets & Accounting Advisory Services) and Thomas Pfriemer (Sustainability Platform) from the accounting firm PwC in Vienna for a guest lecture as part of the lecture "Bilanzen". The two speakers gave the students practical insights into current developments in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) reporting by companies.
In the fight against climate change, sustainability reporting as non-financial reporting has gained considerable importance in recent years alongside traditional financial reporting. In order to achieve the climate and energy targets defined in the EU Green Deal, transparent disclosure of ESG information by companies is necessary. To this end, the EU's action plan includes the adoption of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which will result in significant changes regarding the type, scope, and assurance of ESG information from January 2022 and 2025. In addition, current practical examples of the effects of ESG reporting on financial reporting in accordance with IFRS were presented.
