Irene Furlani
Irene Furlani ist Doktorandin am Lehrstuhl für Entwicklungsökonomie und Mitglied des DFG-Graduiertenkollegs „Digital Platform Ecosystems“ (DPE). Sie hat einen Master-Abschluss in Wirtschaftswissenschaften der Universität Mannheim und einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Wirtschaftswissenschaften mit wirtschaftswissenschaftlichem Schwerpunkt der Universität Rom Tor Vergata. Während ihres Studiums war sie wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Ökonometrie der Universität Mannheim und am Center for Evaluation and Development (C4ED) in Mannheim. Vor Beginn ihrer Promotion erhielt sie eine Vollzeitstelle als (Junior-)Forschungsmanagerin am C4ED. Dort sammelte sie praktische Felderfahrung in der Wirkungsanalyse, insbesondere in Subsahara-Afrika.
Derzeit erforscht sie die Auswirkungen digitaler Technologien und Plattformen auf die Informationsverbreitung (Indien, Indonesien) und die Datenqualität (Ghana). Dabei konzentriert sie sich insbesondere auf folgende Fragen:
- How does agricultural training offered on a digital platform affect the performance of extension workers and millennial farmers in Indonesia, testing whether digital capacity-building can foster the adoption of sustainable practices while reaching a broader pool of farmers
- How mobile broadband connectivity in India influences reproductive and labor outcomes, focusing on the role of access to information in shaping fertility decisions and economic participation
- How privacy-enhancing digital tools can improve data reliability when measuring sensitive social phenomena, using the context of menstruation stigma among adolescent girls in Ghana
