Concept and content
- In this course, students read and discuss recent research papers that have benn or are due to be published in leading international journals. This enables students to gain a deeper unterstanding of current practical and theoretical issues in finance, banking and capital market theory.
- In addition, the course covers the substantive and methodological foundations that are essential for writing a Master’s thesis in this specialisation.
- Teams of two students are assigned a paper, which they work through in depth and present in the workshop as a topic for discussion.
- The Workshop- and presentation topics vary from workshop to workshop.
- The topics are announced in good time before the start of the semester.
- As the number of participants is limited, a selection process may be carried out based on academic progress and previous academic performance.
Applicability and how the exam works
- Master Business Administration: Schwerpunkt Accounting, Finance and Taxation (Vertiefung)
- Master International Economics and Business: International Finance
- Portfolio: Presentation (approx. 40 min. per person, 70%), discussion (30%). An overall grade is awarded.
Recommended semester & prerequisites
Recommended study background
This course should not be taken before your second semester of study. One or two further courses in Finance or Reporting, Statistics and Accounting should already have been completed or be taken in parallel. A certain affinity for statistics is necessary in order to work through the content of empirical papers. The course "Quantitative Methods in Finance" is very helpful in this regard.
