At the 48th Annual Conference of the European Accounting Association (EAA), Christoph Pelger chaired the EAA Financial Reporting Standards Committee’s (FRSC) symposium on the topic “25 years of the IASB: Past, present and future” The symposium featured a number of high-profile speakers from the academic and standard-setting communities.
The programme included reviews of the adoption of IFRS by Kees Camfferman (VU Amsterdam), the substantive development of the standards by Chris Nobes (Royal Holloway), and the organisational development of the IASB by Anne McGeachin (IASB Staff). Saskia Slomp (CEO of EFRAG) reflected on the adoption of IFRS in the EU and the IFRS endorsement process. Florian Esterer (IASB Board member) outlined the IASB’s upcoming agenda consultation. The subsequent open discussion focused primarily on the current challenges and future prospects of IFRS and the IASB.
