Orientation Week

The O-Week of the Fachschaft WiWi is your entry point to student life!

Essential Facts about O-Week

Dear first-years, servus everyone!

Our O-Week starts with a little welcome from the student council – we introduce ourselves and give you an insight into what happens during the first few days at university.

Below are some drop-down menus for the individual events, their descriptions and further information.

Please arrive on time for all events. If no lecture hall or meeting point is specified, the meeting point is always outside the WIWI building (in front of the student council office).

During the Orientation Kick-off, we’ll explain everything you need to know for getting started at the University of Passau, introduce you to some important services offered by the university, and give you a detailed overview of the orientation week schedule. We are often asked whether participation is mandatory. It is not; however, this event is the most important and informative one of the entire week – so it’s definitely worth attending!

We’ve got bags for you :) :) :)

During the Orientation kick-off, you’ll find a bag waiting for you. Inside, you’ll find everything you need to get started in Passau.

If you can’t make it to the Orientation kick-off – no worries! Just drop by our office during our office hours and pick up your ultimate Welcome Bag there.

During these times, you can always find us in our office — we’re happy to help solve your problems and answer any questions.

Whether your Wi-Fi isn’t working, your timetable still needs some fine-tuning, or your Stud.IP courses aren’t showing up where you expect them to — we usually have a solution for most things.

If you can’t (or don’t want to) come by in person, we’re also happy to set up a Zoom appointment. Just send us an email to arrange one.

We’ll also get back to you quickly via email or on social media (Instagram or Facebook).

One of the best things about our university in Passau — and this is proven — is the campus! The cafeteria, lecture halls, libraries, green spaces, the Inn River, and the student council — all in one place! It’s especially beautiful in the summer :) We offer campus tours in small groups.

The tours last about an hour. The meeting point is, as always, in front of the student council office.

Do you want to meet new people and connect with your fellow students? Then join our Speed Friending event on the Innwiese!

In a relaxed atmosphere, you can start conversations, network, and maybe even make new friends.

Grab your favorite drink and join us — either directly on the Innwiese or meet first at the WIWI building, and we’ll head over together!

Did someone say beer?! Did someone say free beer?! Come by and meet your new fellow students!

(There’s a deposit on the bottles, so please bring some change — good karma points guaranteed!)

The meeting point is in front of the student council office. From there, we’ll walk together (about a 10-minute stroll) to Journeys Bar. We’ve reserved a spot just for us, so you can get to know each other a bit — maybe even with a few drinks!

All university portals, Eduroam, printers, and similar services are explained by the ZIM (the university’s IT department) in “Introduction to IT Services.”

You can find detailed information directly from the ZIM.

In a short session, you’ll learn how our library system works — how to borrow books, when to return them, and more.

The meeting point is in the foyer in front of the student council office :)

Using our instructions, you’ll navigate in small groups to around 12 stations across the city. At each station, you’ll complete small tasks or solve puzzles. These challenges teach you interesting facts about the local culture and history, and help you discover the most important shops and bridges in Passau.

The team that completes all tasks correctly and takes a photo at each station wins! As every year, we have awesome prizes waiting for you ;)

You’ll receive your task sheet from us at the start of the event at the student council office.

Right at the start of the week, we’ll take you on a tour of Passau’s bars. Our bar guides are trained and well-prepared to give you a proper kick-off to orientation week. We can’t just throw you into university life untrained!

Meeting point is in front of the student council office — make sure to grab some food beforehand ;)

The SOS Timetable is an introduction to Stud.IP and is designed to help you create your schedule for your first semester. No prior knowledge is required.

We’ll also go over the university’s IT portals in detail and give you tips on courses and professors :)

At the Pub Quiz, groups of up to 6 participants answer questions from a variety of topics and put their general knowledge to the test.

Of course, there will be a prize ceremony for the winners ;)

A Cook & Run is a fun and delicious way to meet new people in your area — and give your frozen pizza a night off.

Sign up at our office, and we’ll take care of the rest :)

What is a Cook & Run?

You’ll be paired with a partner. Together, you’ll prepare either a starter, a main course, or a dessert — not just for yourselves, but for two other teams (six people) who will come to your place for that course. For the other courses, you’ll visit a different team and enjoy what they’ve cooked.

It’s a fantastic way to meet new people.
