Michael Grimm, Nathalie Luck and Udit Sawhney organized jointly with colleagues from of the University Gadjah Mada, Indonesia two workshops targeted at policy makers in Yokyakarta and Bogor and an academic workshop also in Yogyakarta targeted at researchers to share and discuss their findings of DFG and DBU-funded projects on sustainable farming among smallholders in Indonesia. From the academic side researchers from various Indonesian Universities and research institutes joined. Policy makers came from sub-national government entities, international organizations and NGOs.

There was a shared understanding that in Indonesia (and elsewhere) there is a need and a potential for a change in farming practices which can both lead to a higher environmental sustainability and improved livelihoods for farmers.
