Seminars
Our seminar introduces students to scientific work and academic writing. It involves the review of scientific literature on a selected topic. Students will document their method and results in a written seminar paper and present their findings to other seminar participants at the end of the semester. The seminar language is English.
In the seminar, we focus on current topics in the field of information systems that are situated within the research focus areas of the chair. The theme of the seminar varies and is announced in advance.
Bachelor- & Master Seminar (Summer Semester 2024)
The overarching theme of both the bachelor and the master seminar is "Human-Centered Explainable AI".
Explainable AI (XAI) is the ability of AI-based information systems to explain their behaviors and decisions in understandable terms to humans (e.g., customers, employees, doctors). For example, XAI can be used to provide bank customers with insights into why they were granted or denied a loan by an AI-powered credit scoring system. Bachelor and master students will explore the benefits and challenges of XAI with a focus on the human perspective rather than the technical aspects. Seminar topics include the impact of XAI on human decision-making, psychological foundations on explanations/explainability, laws and regulations related to XAI, and the use of XAI approaches in specific application areas. Students will review the scientific literature on one topic for their seminar thesis and engage in group discussions with other students.
