Bioversity International is an international research-for-development organization focusing on the role of agricultural biodiversity in improving rural livelihoods in developing countries. Bioversity International has two internship opportunities available in a project on climate resilient planning. This project aims to create relevant information services to improve organizational and political decision-making processes on food security under climate variability. The Project is executed under the umbrella of the CGIAR Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Program, and financed by the Interamerican Institute for Global Change Research (IAI). Project counterparts are CATIE, CIAT, and IRI. Our regional office for Central America is in Turrialba, Costa Rica. Main project sites are in Guatemala.
We are looking for two motivated Master students to conduct research in our project in the area of (1) information design and (2) experimental research on information preferences.
1) Information design
- Task: design climate and food security information products with perspective on human-centered design / usability, based on research on users´ information needs
- Educational background of the candidate should be in a design discipline, such as information design, interaction design or a related field.
- First experience in designing information products, knowledge of human-cen-tered design concept
- Eventually, concepts will be implemented in automatically generated reports. Therefore, it is desirable that the candidate has experience with scripting to make graphics.
2) Experimental research on information preferences
- Task: conduct research on climate information, experimental economics and infor-mation preferences and design experimental setting on information use
- Educational background of the candidate should be in economics, development economics, development studies, psychology, marketing or related field.
- Courses in behavioral economics, experimental economics, experimental research designs in behavioral studies
- Statistical knowledge, interest in interdisciplinary research
- Software: experience in using statistical software is necessary (preferably R or STATA)
