We feel honored and privileged to welcome Leah M. Omilion-Hodges. as a scholarly guest at our chair from May 5 to May 31, 2017.
Dr. Leah Omilion-Hodges is an assistant professor in the School of Communication at Western Michigan University. Her research combines her complimentary academic, industry and teaching interests.
While completing her graduate studies, she served as a public information officer for a large, metropolitan hospital. In this position, she utilized public relations theory and techniques to effectively communicate health information to internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, similar to other large non-profit organizations, the hospital was essentially a laboratory for the study of organizational communication due to its size, scope and diversity in employees and clientele. To that end, her program of research focuses on three areas of specialization: applied and professional communication (leadership, organizational communication, health communication), public relations and new media.
Omilion-Hodges' recent published work appears in journals such as:
- Cases in Public Health Communication and Marketing
- Communication Research Reports
- The Leadership Quarterly
She has also had writing published in several edited books. Omilion-Hodges is the recipient of several internal-sponsored grants, including an Interdisciplinary Research Initiative Award, Faculty Research Arts and Creative Actives Award, and a Research Development Award. She is also the recipient of the Outstanding Research Award from Wayne State University and was designated as both a Thomas C. Rumble and King Chavez Parks Future Faculty Fellow and was nominated for the Central States Communication Association Outstanding New Teacher award.
Dr. Leah Omilion-Hodges will teach our seminar Theory and Methods in Strategy, Leadership, and Innovation Research during her stay.
She will also hold a research seminar as part of the ICEBS program at our University on Thursday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m. in room 202, HK 14 b, entitled “Communicating leader-member relationship quality: Relationship building and maintenance through the exchange of communication-based goods.”
We thank the ICEBS program to generously sponsor Leah’s visit, and we look forward to a great time!
