We are aware that studying in a new environment places exchange students before a whole host of new challenges. To make things a little more manageable, the School of Business, Economics and Information Systems offers exchange students the option of sitting a special examination which takes into consideration the fact that German is not your first language:
- you attend the regular course
- you choose whether to sit the special or regular examination
- when registering for your examination, you indicate which exam you wish to sit in the form and hand it in to the Dean's Office
Before you register you should enquire with your home institution whether the assessment will be recognised. The Transcript of Records will list the assessment you actually completed. The handout „Special examinations for exchange students” informs the sending institution about examination modalities of special examinations. It can be attached to the application for recognition of credits.
This special examination cannot be made part of the regular degree programmes at Passau. The special examination is exclusively intended for students from abroad who are studying at the University of Passau as part of an exchange programme, not for international degree-seeking students. This includes students here as part of a double degree programme (e.g. with Corvinus University, Budapest).
To ensure equivalence of the degrees, the regular examination regulations apply.
Example: Marketing course in the Bachelor's programme
The school sets a regular 'Marketing' examination and an additional, special 'Marketing for Exchange Students' ('Marketing für Austauschstudierende') examination. If you are an exchange student, you should indicate on the examination registration form which of the two examinations you wish to sit. When you have completed the special examination for Marketing, your Transcript of Records will list the assessment as 'Marketing for Exchange Students'.
We are currently offering the special examinations at the Bachelor's level as well as at the Master´s level. Here is a list of courses for which the special examination is an option. Please inform your examiners at the start of the semester if you wish to sit the special examination.
