In the context of the 21stAnnual Interdisciplinary Conference on entrepreneurship, innovation and SMEs (G-Forum), Prof. Dr. Rodrigo Isidor, Eva Alexandra Schmitz (University of Paderborn), Dr. Holger Steinmetz (University of Paderborn) and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Marius Wehner (University of Düsseldorf) received the “Entrepreneurship Research Newcomer Reward 2017” for their recent paper.
The paper “How counter stereotypical information can change the beliefs and attitude towards entrepreneurship: An experimental study” investigates how the perception of “founding a company” influences the attitude toward start-ups. The authors show that the overall perception of the job of a founder consists especially of individual (e.g. power, performance, influence) and less of communal expectations (e.g. proximity to other people, helping others). They illustrate with the help of an experiment, that the perceptions of start-ups is influenced positively if communal expectations are considered. Test persons developed a more positive attitude towards founding after they reacted on a report with higher communal expectations about a start-up. The study gives a starting point for improving the start-up climate and for a stronger support of the attractivity of start-ups and therefore contributes to a stronger support of start-ups.
The award includes prize money of € 1.000 and was offered by the "Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe e.V." Prof. Dr. Andreas Kuckertz (University of Hohenheim and the Sparkassenfinanzgruppe e.V.) and Klaus Krummrich (Wissenschaftsförderung der Sparkassenfinanzgruppe e.V.) handed over the award.
