Thesis Requirements

All study programmes at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics of the University of Passau require students to submit a Bachelor's or Master's thesis depending on their chosen course of study. More information on this subject is contained in the exam regulations (click on the link on the right-hand side of this page).

By writing a thesis, students demonstrate they are able to work through all aspects of a given problem within a defined period by themselves while applying basic principles of research.

If you plan to write a Bachelor's or Master's thesis at the Chair of Business Administration and Tax Management, please take note of the following information:

Please submit the following documents to the Chair before the deadline:

  1. Brief letter of application (detailing any work experience and/or internships)
  2. A CV plus photo
  3. Your current HISQIS transcript
  4. Proof of enrolment
  5. A copy of your Bachelor's certificate (if available)

You are also welcome to propose a topic for your thesis in your letter of application.

Please note for students wishing to embark on a thesis project at the Chair of Business Administration and Tax Managementit it is recommended to have successfully completed a tax seminar (at the Bachelor's or Master's level).

The following deadlines apply:

Summer Term:

Application deadline at the Chair: 31 January
Deadline for notifying the examinations office: 30 September

Winter Term:

Application deadline at the Chair: 31 August
Deadline for notifying the examinations office: 31 March

Once the deadline has expired we will send an e-mail informing you whether you have been assigned a supervisor. Should you wish to withdraw your application once your supervisor has been confirmed, please do so at your earliest convenience.

Thesis Registration

Once your supervisor has confirmed your application, a meeting will be scheduled with either the Head of the Chair or your supervisor. Please bring the application form from the examinations office (see the download links to the right of this page) along to this appointment.

Please ensure that your application form is completed (with the exception of the thesis topic). Once the topic has been chosen, the Chair Secretariat will notify the examinations office of the thesis project. You will subsequently receive an official notification and confirmation from the examinations office about the start of your project, the period of completion, and the topic of the thesis.

You can check in Stud.IP or in the News section of our homepage when your defence/viva has been scheduled.

Please note that your thesis must also be submitted electronically.
